We had a group of 5 people and stayed in the Deluxe family room. Everything was clean and prepared for our arrival and the staff showed us around all of the facilities and explained everything to us in English as we did not speak much Japanese, Not all of the staff spoke English, however anytime we had a query that required it they would always help us to speak with someone who did which was extremely helpful.
The room itself was extremely spacious and came with 2 large beds and 3 tatami beds that were setup for us when we went for dinner. The room had all of the amenities that you could need and also gave each person a yukata and sandals that could be worn around the entire site. The balcony overlooks the bay and other areas on the island and is very beautiful, particularly at sunrise and sunset.
The food for both dinner and breakfast was exceptional. The staff were extremely attentive and explained each of the courses to us in English and were always on hand for even the smallest request.
There is a fantastic walk on the top of the island that is accessible via the main lift and is a brilliant spot for photographs or just to relax in the quiet although the staff explained that it is closed when it is dark so make sure not to miss out on it if you are interested.
The site has both indoor and outdoor Onsen's which are rotated between Men and Women each day. These were extremely well kept and have all of the necessities for showering beforehand etc. These were absolutely the highlight of the accommodation and I would thoroughly recommend that everyone uses them at least once during their stay.
The boats to and from the mainland can be arranged with staff up to every 15 minutes and they can also arrange a free taxi shuttle service from the dock to the train station nearby
I would also just like to mention about how exceptional all of the staff were. We felt welcome from the moment we set foot on the boat to the moment we stepped back off it.

Best place you can rent to see the area, specially if you prefer apartments to hotels. The staff is very professional and kind, you cannot go wrong renting this place.
Located in the Nanki Katsuura hot-spring area, guests at Hotel Urashima can enjoy natural Bokido cave hot-spring baths. The hotel offers 4 other public hot-spring baths.

Great last night during the kumano kodo. This hotel is located right next to the train/bus station, which made it very convenient to arrive/leave. The rooms are comfortable and the shared onsen and bathroom facilities were very clean. The dinner was fantastic, highly recommend staying here just for that!

We liked the setting, the view from our room of the ocean and the closeness to the Natchi waterfall, and the Kumano Kodo trail!

Katsuura is very scenic with beautiful bays, and a backdrop of mountains and small towns. Kii Katsuura is renowed for tuna fishing and so the freshest tuna sushimi can be found everywhere. Accommodation places are not far from the train station and local bus transport is available. While there are beaches as well as opportunity for recreational walking, we didn't have time to explore these options.

Only had half a day & 1 night but wish I had more. Convenient JR station with excellent help and support from train staff & information centre. With the fish market there it was a hotspot for locals enjoying fresh fish and sushi. Few other restaurants to choose from for more variety. Great spot for sightseeing if ocean views are your thing. The next suburb approx 5-10min away even has a shopping complex including cinema and western fast food (if you’re so inclined). Seemed like a good base to explore southern Wakayama and it’s not full of western tourists (yes I am aware of the irony leaving this review being a western tourist 😂)

Near the Kumano national park, a seaside town known for tuna and onsens.
Local fish market near the harbour has fresh tuna sushi/sashimi. The big cave onsen inside hotel Urashima is a must visit, doesn't have to stay overnight, can visit via a day pass.
Kumano Nachi Taisha shrine (part of Kumano Kodo hiking route) and waterfall is nearby. There are buses between Katsuura and Nachi. The visit takes around half a day.

Amazing tuna sushi from fish caught the same day!!
Nachi no Ogi Matsuri (Nachi Fire Festival) was really impressive and the mountain surrounding it is beautiful with giant trees and Japan's largest waterfall!
Really friendly people and easy to get around too!
The lady in the tourist information booth was really nice and they even have special local anime mascot goods available there so check that out too!
Overall this little fishing town is fun to explore with lots of local charm, great cultural experiences, and beautiful nature to admire. I definitely recommend visiting for a festival and checking out the daily tuna auctions in the morning. Eat maguro everything and be happy!

Kii-Katsuura is an attractive fishing village, with many interesting and relatively inexpensive restaurants specializing in tuna dishes, mostly raw. It is the gateway to a number of the most important Kumano Kodo sights such as the Nachi Taisha grand shrine, and the Nach no Taki waterfall, the highest in Japan.

A charismatic little fishing port, with a clean and interesting functioning fishing harbour. The morning's fish market auction is worth seeing.
Plenty of good Tuna-specialist restaurants.
An ideal place to spend the night after finishing the Kumano Kodo, and then catch a train the next day.
Soaking in an onsen built inside caves over looking the ocean was a great and unique experience. Several choices of onsen that were available at different times of day. Very spacious room with fantastic sea views. Hotel shuttle ran regularly and continuously we never had to wait long.
Buffet was great and staff were wonderful and gracious. Most generous and best sashimi and sushi at a hotel buffet in our five weeks in Japan. My husband raved about the tender morsels of beef slices.
Excellent location! The seaside town of Nachikatsuura is a peaceful haven to begin with, and this onsen hotel made our stay there all the more lovely. The staff was kind, and helped to coordinate our arrival/departure, meals, and more. We enjoyed the open air baths as well as the short island hike accessed through the fifth floor. We appreciated the luggage transfer shuttle and ferry which took us directly to/from the train station.
The staff, firstly. A bit of a language barrier but so helpful. The guesthouse is just lovely. You get a real rustic feel. Extra padded mattresses too. There is an onsen on site and, you can book to have a traditional Japanese breakfast too. Be sure to visit the owner’s restaurant next door. The tuna is epic! We enjoyed 2 nights here to see Nachi Katsuura waterfall and we loved the sleepy town. You’ll have a relaxed stay here.
I was running late at check-out and was given 30 extra minutes, which was very generous of the host. A free bicycle was also available, which was very convenient. The house has plenty of space and a full, well-equipped kitchen. The neighborhood is very quiet, about 2km away from Kii-Katsuura Station. The taxi ride from Kii-Katsuura Station to the house on the day of my arrival was ¥1,120.
Great views of the beach and surfers. 2 minutes from kii-temma station.
The bedrooms are smallish, but have everything you need. And the beds are super comfy with very nice duvets & plump pillows. The bedroom window that is the width of the room and shows off the stretch of coast, is lovely……along with a tiny balcony.
The breakfast is also great quality- tuna sashimi for breaky!!
I had a great time in Nagisaya Hotel. The room is in traditionnel japanese style (tatami and futon on floor) and had a wonderful view on the sea.
The hotel offers interior and exterior onsen where I had my best time with the view on the moutain and a little on the sea (only men onsen has total view on the sea, women are on the other side).
The staff is really friendly.

The rooms are comfortable and the shared onsen and bathroom facilities were very clean. The dinner was fantastic, highly recommend staying here just for that!
I only have positive things to say about the staff at this hotel. A gentleman greeted me so politely. He knew exactly who I was. I was frustrated due to being lost by following Google Map directions. This kind man was so understanding. He excelled at customer service.....a big hug to that gentleman.
The hotel is beautifully sited on an island and we had a very fine view from our room. We used and enjoyed the onsen, particularly the outdoor public bath. The food, of course, was excellent and the service and attention to detail outstanding.
Like the lair of James Bond villain, the hotel extends into the rocks, different onsen and restaurants connected by long corridors and the famous space walker escalator. It's a great experience to stay here!
It's definitely the most beautyful onsen I've seen so far. Very nice location, hotel and staff.
Massage seat in the room was great!
My girlfriend could join the onsen even though she was tattoed.

Great view, beautiful room and very nice Onsen. Hotel stuff was friendly and helpful. Japanese breakfast is maybe not for everyone but definitely worth a try.
